Hiroko Baba was born in Tnkyo in 1949 and began her studies of koto and shamisen at a young age. She passed the NHK performance audition in 1977 and placed in the All-Japan Sankyoku Concours in 1978. She has studied with Tadao Sawai since 1978 and has performed throughout Japan and Europe Since 1992 she has performed annual recitals in Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo, and she is active as a teacher as well as in a number of professional koto groups.
